Meet Michael Reilly

Michael, his wife Mary and their 3 children live in Eltingville. Mike is a retired New York City Police Lieutenant and also served in the United States Army Reserves.

Mike has been a tremendous advocate for the entire Staten Island community. He has a knack for building coalitions and bringing people together to develop common sense solutions to community problems.

Community Accomplishments

Over the past decade we have accomplished so much. Below are some of the things we have accomplished to improve our Staten Island community through advocacy.

Fought to restore yellow school bus service for our 7th and 8th graders, writing bi-partisan legislation.

Worked alongside Councilman Ignizio and his staff to advocate for NYC DOE to invest $700m to replace hazardous PCB light fixtures in NYC Schools, expediting Staten Island.

Developed a Public Address/Fire Alarm System Replacement Program, improving emergency communications for 1400 school buildings across NYC.

Developed a Comprehensive Safety and Security Plan for New York schools, which included locking all doors, adding buzzer entry systems, cameras, panic alarms, and more.

Partnered with the NYPD Highway Unit’s Drug Recognition Coordinator to develop a Citywide Drug Driving Awareness Training for Patrol Officers.

Developed NYC DOT “Slow Zones” to improve traffic safety in our communities.

Introduced legislation with the NYS Senate and Assembly to prohibit U-Turns in school zones. The measure was signed into law, supplemented by stop, drop and go programs.

Successfully negotiated with NYC DOT to add Photo Enforced signs in areas across the city in an effort to improve safety.

Secured over $60 million dollars in capital project allocations for Staten Island schools

Successfully negotiated for DOE to change the School Bus Hazard Variance application process to an online system with easier access for parents and quicker decisions.

Successfully advocated for the MTA to restore the Hylan Blvd & Guyon Ave bus stop on the S79 Select Bus Service route.
